Today Boris Johnson announced new lockdown guidelines including relaxing the 2m rule from the 4th July and allowing two households to meet indoors or outdoors.

From 4 July, pubs and restaurants will be allowed to open both indoors and outdoors if they put in safety guidelines including recording all customers’ contact details to support Test & Trace, and offering table service.

Other businesses allowed to reopen will be:

  • Hotels, bed and breakfasts, campsites and caravan parks, maintaining high levels of cleanliness in communal spaces
  • Hair salons and barbers, but with visors worn
  • Playgrounds, museums, galleries, theme parks, outdoor gyms and arcades, libraries, social clubs and community centres

However nightclubs, indoor gyms and nail bars will not be able to reopen at this stage. The Prime Minister stated that task forces of public health experts will be set up to help businesses become COVID-19 secure and reopen.

The arts industry, including theatres, was also covered, with specific guidance being issued so that operations can resume ASAP.
